This course introduces staking personnel to electric metering principles and applications, focusing on selecting and specifying the proper equipment and assemblies for construction design.

COURSE INFORMATION

Course Description: This course provides staking personnel with an understanding of electric metering principles and applications, including watt-hour, kW and kVA demand, self-contained, and instrument transformer-rated metering for both single- and three-phase systems, with an emphasis on recognizing proper meter applications, required hardware, and assemblies for construction design.

Participants learn to:
• Understand the principles and applications of electric metering in distribution systems
• Identify and select appropriate meter types for various load and voltage applications
• Distinguish between self-contained and instrument transformer-rated metering
• Recognize required hardware and assemblies for accurate construction design
• Interpret basic wiring diagrams to support metering and staking functions

Basic Metering Theory
• Voltage and current
• Watt-hours meters
• kW and KVA demand
• Self-contained meter

Single-Phase Metering Application and Specification
• Self-contained secondary
• Instrument transformer rated secondary & primary

Three-Phase Metering Application and Specification
• Self-contained secondary
• Instrument transformer rated secondary & primary

Special Applications
• Minimum/maximum voltage metering
• NESC design and installation requirements

Installation and Removal
• Personal safety equipment and procedure
• Self-contained 
• Instrument transformer rated
 

Continuing Education Units and Continuing Professional Education Hours
This course may be eligible for CEUs or CPEs, depending on the governing body. Upon request and completion of the entire course, TEC will provide a certificate of completion to participants that may be used to apply for CEUs/CPEs.
